Who is Bruce Da Brave?
Self-Aware. Socially conscious.
Bruce Da Brave is a Hip Hop artist from Chicago who leans on boom bap, horrorcore, and experimental vibes.
Bruce views himself as a writer above all. “Being a journalist was one of my first career aspirations. I think that carries through in what I write. I see myself as a storyteller, an investigative journalist.” In his music, Bruce Da Brave isn't afraid to challenge authority, upend societal systems that no longer serve, or deep dive into the dark recesses of the Shadow Self in the process of self-awareness and improvement.
Citing the Wu-Tang Clan, Scienz of Life, Company Flow, and the Soundbombing era of Rawkus Records as his earliest influences, the “backpacker” can be readily heard in his music. “I want to make sure people get something out of my music, beyond sonic pleasure. I want to stimulate the mind and soul of the listener. I think we should all aim to dig deeper." Bruce Da Brave constantly strives for Knowledge of Self and lives by the following quotes:
"The darkest nights produce the brightest stars."
"I searched for God and found myself. I searched for myself and found God." - Rumi
"The people who are trying to make this world worse aren’t taking a day off. How can I?" -Bob Marley
Bruce Da Brave considers himself a lifelong learner and teacher. He graduated from Stanford University in 2005, earning a Bachelor of Arts in Communication. After working in various industries, from non-profit organizations, advertising, and 5 years at a then-small startup called Facebook, Bruce identified a passion for Education. He earned a Master of Arts degree in Secondary Education and has spent the last 8 years teaching English/Language Arts in Chicago. Bruce currently lives on the Southside of Chicago with his wife and 2 children. When he's not writing or making music, he enjoys reading a wide range of texts, seeking out the wickedest Horror movies, Chicago sports, mentoring youth, and spending quality time with his family.
